Grilled Chicken Sausage and Pears

Grilled Chicken Sausage and Pears

I don’t think I ever would have realized this before, but Martha Stewart is pretty great!  I scoured her website recently, looking for easy weeknight dinner recipes that take little effort, but that are still elegant and delicious …. and guess what?  Homegirl knows how to deliver!

This dish is a Martha Stewart creation and I think it is just fantastic.  The ingredient list is minimal, and aside from the sausage and pears, you will definitely have everything you need already in your kitchen.  Plus, if you are a big fan of chicken sausage (I am), these sweet apple and maple chicken sausages really hit the spot.  Pair the sausage with sweet pears that have been marinated with a tangy vinaigrette, and grilled on our indoor grill …. and you have a combination that is unstoppable.  I totally loved this, and I hope Marc will make it again for me.  🙂

Grilled Chicken Sausage and Pears

from Martha Stewart

Serves 4

  • 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp. Dijon mustard (we actually didn’t have any, so we used Gulden’s Brown Mustard.  Still good!)
  • 1/4 c. olive oil
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • Freshly ground pepper, to taste
  • 4 firm, ripe pears, cut lengthwise into 1/4″ slices
  • 8 precooked chicken and apple sausage links, halved
  • Mustard or chutney for serving
  1. Preheat outdoor or indoor grill (or grill pan) to medium-high.
  2. Whisk lemon juice with mustard.  Add oil slowly and steadily, whisking until emulsified.  Add salt and pepper.  Toss pears in dressing.
  3. Grill sausages, turning frequently until heated through.  At the same time, add pears to grill, and cook until softened and lightly browned.
  4. Serve together, with bread.  (Mine isn’t as rustic or crusty as I would like, but still delicious!)
